International Congress on Planted Forests 2023 : planted forests, an essential nature-based solution to meet growing needs in wood products, restore forest ecosystems, and mitigate climate change.
This major event is co-organized by the Institut Européen de la Forêt Cultivée (IEFC), the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the Center for International Forestry Research and World Agroforestry (CIFOR-ICRAF), the International Union of Forest Research Organizations (IUFRO), the TreeDivNet network, the Kenya Forestry Research Institute (KEFRI), the Kenya Forest Service (KFS), and the Ministry of Environment, Climate Change and Forestry of Kenya.
This fifth International Congress on Planted Forests will be the opportunity to review and discuss challenges and opportunities in harnessing the potential of planted forests to meet growing human needs, restore forest ecosystems, and mitigate climate change.

High-level concluding session of the 5th International Congress on Planted Forests – Digital Session – 10 November
Following welcoming remarks, a high-level Kenyan government representative will give a speech on the challenges and opportunities of planted forests in Kenya. Subsequently, the outcomes of the congress will be discussed during a panel session. Session chairs and representatives from side events will present brief interventions. This will be followed by a Q&A session with the audience. The IUFRO Task Force “Resilient planted forests serving society & bioeconomy,” will deliver a presentation on its recent work and upcoming activities. The event will conclude with the launch of the new edition of FAO’s flagship journal Unasylva which focuses on planted forests. Participants will be able to share their questions with the panelists through the chat function of the event. Find out more here
