This perspective paper explores the challenges and opportunities of plantation establishment in boreal ecosystems of eastern North America and Scandinavia. It highlights the effectiveness of mechanical site preparation, species-specific responses, and the role of soil nutrient dynamics. Key future research directions include long-term sustainability of site preparation methods, adaptive strategies for climate variability, and technological advances like AI and remote sensing. This work aims to guide silvicultural practices that enhance resilience and productivity of boreal forests under climate change.
