«As an international cooperation association dedicated to planted forests, the IEFC can only welcome the existence of a global day dedicated to forests.

This day serves as a reminder that planted forests account for just 8% of the world’s planted land area, yet supply nearly half of the timber harvested globally. Faced with growing demand for timber and increasing pressure on natural resources, these forests will have a crucial role to play in the years to come. It is therefore essential to continue research efforts to better understand how they function and to improve their resilience. In this regard, the initiatives carried out within the FIRE-RES and SUPERB-BOCAGE living laboratories illustrate the innovative approaches aimed at enhancing the adaptability of forest systems.

This event also provides an opportunity to invite all interested stakeholders to attend the IEFC General Assembly, which will be held in Le Mans on 30 June 2026. It will offer an overview of the issues relating to the management, extent and challenges facing planted forests in Europe.»
