Joint Conference of COST Action Urban Tree Guard (CA20132) and EPPO ‘Biosecurity and Surveillance of Quarantine Pests of Trees in Forests and Cities’

EPPO in collaboration with a COST Action Urban Tree Guard (CA20132) is organizing a joint conference ‘Biosecurity and Surveillance of Quarantine Pests of Trees in Forests and Cities’.

The conference will cover a broad range of topics related to forest biosecurity, with a particular focus on surveillance for quarantine pests of trees in forests and urban environments.

Themes include:

  • biosecurity strategies to prevent the introduction and spread of pests in urban environments,
  • current practices and challenges faced by National Plant Protection Organizations (NPPOs) in surveillance for quarantine pests of trees,
  • innovative tools and solutions for surveillance, detection, identification, and monitoring of pests of trees in forests and urban environments,
  • tree resistance and vulnerability,
  • stakeholder perspectives: communities, professionals, and authorities in urban tree health,
  • education and awareness: promoting knowledge and action on tree health and biosecurity,
  • policy and decision-making frameworks that support biosecurity of trees and woodlands in urban contexts.

The conference will take place on September 8–10, 2025 in Carcavelos, Portugal.

EPPO invites NPPOs to take part in this conference, to share best practices and discusschallenges encountered in surveillance for quarantine pests of trees in your countries.

Registration is open until 30th of June 2025. If attendees want to give oral or poster presentations on the listed themes, they should upload their abstracts during registration.

The attendees are invited to deliver oral or poster presentations. When registering, participants will be asked to provide a title and short abstract (optional).
