Certaines entreprises s\u0092int\u00e9ressent de pr\u00e8s au massif forestier fran\u00e7ais, qui repr\u00e9sente 30 % du territoire m\u00e9tropolitain, et qui pourrait se r\u00e9v\u00e9ler \u00eatre une manne \u00e9nerg\u00e9tique naturelle et renouvelable. Parmi les vingt-deux projets de centrales biomasse \u0096 c\u0092est-\u00e0-dire dont le combustible est d\u0092origine organique (le bois, mais aussi la paille voire le marc de raisin) \u0096, onze fonctionneront \u00e0 partir de plaquettes foresti\u00e8res. Le minist\u00e8re leur garantirait un tarif pr\u00e9f\u00e9rentiel d\u0092achat d\u0092\u00e9lectricit\u00e9 aupr\u00e8s d\u0092EDF. L\u0092objectif est de respecter les engagements europ\u00e9ens qui visent \u00e0 porter \u00e0 20 % la part de renouvelable dans la consommation d\u0092\u00e9nergie d\u0092ici 2020. En 2006, le Centre d\u0092\u00e9tudes de l\u0092\u00e9conomie du bois (CEEB) a d\u00e9cid\u00e9, en partenariat avec l\u0092Insee, de mettre au point un indice sur le prix du bois-\u00e9nergie, compte tenu du d\u00e9veloppement de ce march\u00e9 et de l\u0092int\u00e9r\u00eat des entreprises. Il situe actuellement la valeur de la plaquette foresti\u00e8re \u00e0 69,4 euros la tonne.
