A gest\u00e3o da doen\u00e7a da murchid\u00e3o do pinheiro envolve um empreendimento log\u00edstico complexo, com efic\u00e1cia limitada e repercuss\u00f5es ecol\u00f3gicas significativas. A procura crescente de biossolu\u00e7\u00f5es despertou o interesse por antagonistas microbianos capazes de controlar o nem\u00e1todo. <em>Esteya <\/em>spp. s\u00e3o agentes promissores de biocontrolo f\u00fangico do nem\u00e1todo da madeira do pinheiro. Aqui, realizamos uma carateriza\u00e7\u00e3o integrada de isolados de <em>Esteya vermicola<\/em> e <em>Esteya floridanum<\/em>, atrav\u00e9s de m\u00e9todos biol\u00f3gicos, bioqu\u00edmicos e moleculares, e fornecemos informa\u00e7\u00f5es sobre a sele\u00e7\u00e3o destes isolados para o controlo biol\u00f3gico do nem\u00e1todo do pinheiro. Os ensaios de cultura dupla revelaram que <em>Esteya <\/em>spp. pode competir com fungos ophiostomatoides (<em>Leptographium terebrantis<\/em> e <em>Ophiostoma ips<\/em>) que ocorrem no patossistema da doen\u00e7a da murchid\u00e3o do pinheiro, uma perspetiva ecol\u00f3gica frequentemente negligenciada que poderia dificultar o seu sucesso como agentes de biocontrolo. Al\u00e9m disso, <em>E. vermicola <\/em>pode metabolizar mais fontes de carbono do que <em>E. floridanum<\/em>, o que pode ter implica\u00e7\u00f5es no sucesso do seu estabelecimento em pinheiros. A nossa abordagem experimental mostra ainda que ambas as <em>Esteya <\/em>spp. s\u00e3o igualmente competentes na supress\u00e3o do nem\u00e1todo do pinheiro <em>in vitro<\/em>.
