Dado que o coberto florestal prim\u00e1rio continua a diminuir a um ritmo alarmante em todo o mundo, as florestas plantadas representam uma alternativa relevante para a produ\u00e7\u00e3o de madeira e o armazenamento de carbono, em especial quando estabelecidas em antigos terrenos agr\u00edcolas ou industriais abandonados. No entanto, apesar de d\u00e9cadas de investiga\u00e7\u00e3o sugerirem que uma maior riqueza em esp\u00e9cies melhora a produtividade dos ecossistemas florestais, as florestas plantadas continuam a constituir, maioritariamente, monoculturas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-cf9411b129597592dadef05912a11fe4\">Para determinar se a diversifica\u00e7\u00e3o das planta\u00e7\u00f5es melhoraria o armazenamento de carbono acima do solo, Warner et al (2024) compilaram um conjunto de dados de 79 testes de compara\u00e7\u00e3o entre florestas plantadas puras e mistas da Am\u00e9rica do Norte, Europa e Austral\u00e1sia. Em m\u00e9dia, verificaram que as exist\u00eancias de carbono acima do solo nas florestas plantadas mistas eram 70% superiores \u00e0s exist\u00eancias m\u00e9dias nas monoculturas das esp\u00e9cies que as compunham (sobreprodu\u00e7\u00e3o) e 25% superiores \u00e0s monoculturas com melhor desempenho (sobreprodu\u00e7\u00e3o transgressiva).
