De norte a sul, a Europa debateu-se com fen\u00f3menos meteorol\u00f3gicos extremos. Inunda\u00e7\u00f5es na Eslov\u00e9nia, It\u00e1lia, Ch\u00e9quia e Alemanha, que obrigaram os habitantes a deixar as suas casas no dia de Natal; deslizamentos de terras na Noruega; inc\u00eandios florestais galopantes, dif\u00edceis de controlar recorrendo aos meios de combate tradicionais na Gr\u00e9cia; vagas de calor em Espanha, a \u00faltima das quais no in\u00edcio de dezembro, quando uma massa de ar quente fez subir a temperatura para cerca de 27\u00baC em algumas cidades.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color\">As altera\u00e7\u00f5es clim\u00e1ticas, associadas a condi\u00e7\u00f5es extremas, est\u00e3o a provocar cat\u00e1strofes transfronteiri\u00e7as cada vez mais frequentes e intensas, algumas das quais representam amea\u00e7as directas \u00e0 sa\u00fade e seguran\u00e7a humanas. Com vista a minimizar estes impactos e garantir que as v\u00e1rias fun\u00e7\u00f5es ambientais, sociais e econ\u00f3micas das florestas possam ser cumpridas no futuro, v\u00e1rias estrat\u00e9gias, regulamentos e directivas na UE t\u00eam sido criados. Contudo, os desenvolvimentos geopol\u00edticos resultantes da guerra na Ucr\u00e2nia e a consequente proibi\u00e7\u00e3o dos produtos petrol\u00edferos refinados provenientes da Russia vieram tamb\u00e9m intensificar a press\u00e3o sobre as florestas europeias.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color\">\u00c9 prov\u00e1vel que o novo ano nos traga desafios semelhantes, e as florestas plantadas possam ajudar a enfrent\u00e1-los, uma vez que podem contribuir para estabilizar o clima, regulando os ecossistemas, protegendo a biodiversidade e desempenhando um papel integral no ciclo do carbono, absorvendo CO2 e contribuindo para a neutralidade carbonica, ao mesmo tempo que reduzem a press\u00e3o sobre as florestas naturais.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color\">No IEFC, acreditamos que s\u00f3 a gest\u00e3o sustent\u00e1vel das florestas e a utiliza\u00e7\u00e3o sustent\u00e1vel dos recursos podem ajudar a combater as altera\u00e7\u00f5es clim\u00e1ticas e contribuir para a prosperidade e o bem-estar das gera\u00e7\u00f5es actuais e futuras. Isto s\u00f3 pode ser conseguido atrav\u00e9s da capacita\u00e7\u00e3o dos gestores\/propriet\u00e1rios florestais, dando-lhes acesso aos mais recentes resultados de investiga\u00e7\u00e3o cient\u00edfica, ferramentas de apoio \u00e0 gest\u00e3o e fornecendo-lhes exemplos de solu\u00e7\u00f5es implementadas por outros, que podem ser aplicadas ou adaptadas para resolver os seus problemas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color\">Durante 2023, a equipa do IEFC trabalhou na transfer\u00eancia de conhecimentos recolhidos no \u00e2mbito de v\u00e1rios projectos de investiga\u00e7\u00e3o. A fim de fornecer os contributos t\u00e9cnicos e conhecimentos necess\u00e1rios aos propriet\u00e1rios florestais e profissionais, foram organizados v\u00e1rios webinars e confer\u00eancias, alinhados com as principais \u00e1reas tem\u00e1ticas definidas no plano estrat\u00e9gico do IEFC. As discuss\u00f5es focaram temas como as ferramentas desenvolvidas para auxiliar a gest\u00e3o florestal, como por exemplo a aplica\u00e7\u00e3o para telefone <a href=\"https:\/\/silvalert.net\/\">SILVALERT<\/a>, que permite recolher informa\u00e7\u00f5es sobre danos bi\u00f3ticos observados nas florestas ou as ferramentas inform\u00e1ticas desenvolvidas no \u00e2mbito do projeto <a href=\"https:\/\/virtualforests.eu\/\">Florestas Virtuais<\/a>; a ocorr\u00eancia de perturba\u00e7\u00f5es (a)bioticas, incluindo a organiza\u00e7\u00e3o da Confer\u00eancia Wind and Trees e a apresenta\u00e7\u00e3o dos principais resultados do projeto <a href=\"https:\/\/homed-project.eu\/\">HOMED<\/a>, que compilou conhecimentos cient\u00edficos e solu\u00e7\u00f5es pr\u00e1ticas para a gest\u00e3o de pragas e agentes patog\u00e9nicos emergentes nas florestas europeias; a Confer\u00eancia Final do projeto <a href=\"https:\/\/www.comfor-sudoe.eu\/\">COMFOR-SUDOE<\/a>, que procurou promover as planta\u00e7\u00f5es mistas como estrat\u00e9gia adaptativa resiliente para combater as altera\u00e7\u00f5es clim\u00e1ticas e o decl\u00ednio da biodiversidade; ou ainda a organiza\u00e7\u00e3o do 5.\u00ba Congresso Internacional sobre Florestas Plantadas 2023 sob o mote da utiliza\u00e7\u00e3o de solu\u00e7\u00f5es baseadas na natureza para satisfazer as necessidades crescentes de produtos de madeira, restaurar os ecossistemas florestais e mitigar as altera\u00e7\u00f5es clim\u00e1ticas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color\">Aproveito para expressar o meu mais profundo agradecimento \u00e0 equipa do IEFC pela sua dedica\u00e7\u00e3o e trabalho \u00e1rduo, ao Conselho de Administra\u00e7\u00e3o pelos seus valiosos contributos que nos guiam ao longo do caminho, aos doadores pelas suas contribui\u00e7\u00f5es e a todos os nossos membros pela sua parceria e interesse demonstrado nas nossas atividades. O futuro \u00e9 promissor e estou confiante de que, com o apoio desta rede multidisciplinar em crescimento, o IEFC pode continuar a promover a import\u00e2ncia das florestas plantadas e a sua contribui\u00e7\u00e3o para a mitiga\u00e7\u00e3o e adapta\u00e7\u00e3o \u00e0s altera\u00e7\u00f5es clim\u00e1ticas: apoiando os esfor\u00e7os emergentes de (re)floresta\u00e7\u00e3o de \u00e1reas afetadas por riscos (a)bi\u00f3ticos; aplicando uma gest\u00e3o florestal respons\u00e1vel, com especial incid\u00eancia na melhoria da produtividade florestal; e ajudando no processo de desbloqueamento e valoriza\u00e7\u00e3o dos benef\u00edcios florestais essenciais para um fornecimento sustent\u00e1vel e equitativo de bens e servi\u00e7os florestais.
