Alors que la surface de for\u00eats primaires continue de diminuer \u00e0 un rythme alarmant dans le monde entier, les for\u00eats plant\u00e9es repr\u00e9sentent une alternative int\u00e9ressante pour la production de bois et le stockage du carbone, en particulier lorsqu&rsquo;elles sont \u00e9tablies sur d&rsquo;anciennes terres agricoles ou industrielles abandonn\u00e9es. Cependant, malgr\u00e9 des d\u00e9cennies de recherche sugg\u00e9rant qu&rsquo;une plus grande richesse en esp\u00e8ces am\u00e9liore la productivit\u00e9 des \u00e9cosyst\u00e8mes forestiers, les for\u00eats plant\u00e9es sont encore principalement des monocultures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-102b453dd3e3d211b746469532dbd287\">Pour d\u00e9terminer si la diversification des plantations am\u00e9liorerait le stockage du carbone a\u00e9rien, Warner et al. (2024) ont compil\u00e9 un ensemble de donn\u00e9es de 79 tests de comparaison entre des for\u00eats plant\u00e9es pures et mixtes d&rsquo;Am\u00e9rique du Nord, d&rsquo;Europe et d&rsquo;Australasie. En moyenne, ils ont constat\u00e9 que les stocks de carbone a\u00e9rien dans les for\u00eats plant\u00e9es mixtes \u00e9taient 70 % plus \u00e9lev\u00e9s que le stock moyen dans les monocultures des esp\u00e8ces qui les composent (bonus de productivit\u00e9 relatif), et 25 % plus \u00e9lev\u00e9s que les monocultures les plus performantes (bonus de productivit\u00e9 absolu). L&rsquo;effet positif du m\u00e9lange d&rsquo;esp\u00e8ces commence \u00e0 se manifester d\u00e8s que deux esp\u00e8ces sont m\u00e9lang\u00e9es. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-03537c0dd904f80b44e79e5f92cb407c\">Ces r\u00e9sultats, obtenus principalement dans de jeunes plantations, sugg\u00e8rent que la diversification pourrait \u00eatre une solution \u00e0 court terme tr\u00e8s prometteuse pour augmenter le pi\u00e9geage du carbone dans les for\u00eats plant\u00e9es.
