SUMMARY:IUFRO 1.01.04 Tree Establishment and Early Growth Dynamics Conference
DESCRIPTION:IUFRO-1.0-advertisement-base_A5-SIZETélécharger\n\n\n\nAchieving forest establishment success at scale to address climate\, environmental\, social and economic challenges around the world.\n\n\n\nSince 2017 there has been a rapid rise in global efforts to plant billions of trees at scale to mitigate climate change\, address environmental degradation\, reforest large areas devastated by natural disturbances (e.g. wildfires)\, and to accelerate development of the bioeconomy. In parallel\, emerging technologies offer new opportunities to increase productivity\, overcome labour constraints and to minimise environmental impacts of tree planting operations. The application of Indigenous Knowledge in forest establishment practices has also been gaining importance globally. \n\n\n\nAs a result of all these factors\, planted forest establishment is again a highly topical area of forest science and it is vital that forest regeneration and afforestation efforts are accelerated by adopting the latest advances in forest science and technology. The goal of this next conference in New Zealand is to bring together forest leaders\, researchers\, practitioners\, and technologists to present the state-of-the-art science and technology being developed and implemented to address the opportunities and challenges associated with actively establishing and regenerating forest ecosystems in an increasingly complex\, extreme\, and rapidly changing environment. \n\n\n\nWebsite \n\n\n\nProgramme (draft) \n\n\n\nSponsorship opportunity \n\n\n\nAnnouncement

SUMMARY:FOREM 2025
SUMMARY:Webinar “After the Storm: Pathways to Forest Recovery and Restoration in Ireland and Beyond”
DESCRIPTION:On the wake of Storm Eowyn – which occurred this year on 24 January 2025 and brought unprecedented wind speeds and widespread disruption across Ireland – forest landscapes have suffered significant damage across the country. \n\n\n\nThis webinar\, organized under SUPERB project’s “Forest Restoration Talks” series in collaboration with the European Integrate Network\, TRANSFORMIT project and FoRISK facility\, brings together forestry professionals\, environmental scientists\, policymakers\, and a landowner to examine the extent and nature of the storm-related damage in Ireland as well as look at other European examples of major forest disturbances. \n\n\n\nTogether\, we’ll explore the immediate impacts\, assess longer-term ecological and economic implications\, and discuss practices for recovery\, resilience planning and climate adaptation measures. \n\n\n\nKey Themes and Questions: \n\n\n\n\nHow can we better deal with future disturbances across European forests?\n\n\n\nHow do we transform / adapt our forests to make them more climate resilient?\n\n\n\nWhat can we learn from past experiences to recover and restore forests in an integrative way?\n\n\n\nWhat are current preliminary findings on storm damage across different forest types and regions?\n\n\n\nWhat are strategies to salvage logging\, replant and protect biodiversity after storm damage?\n\n\n\nHow can policy and funding from government and EU support recovery?\n\n\n\n\nPanelists: \n\n\n\n– Noel Kelly\, Irish forest owner majorly affected by storm Éowyn \n\n\n\n– Christophe Orazio from IEFC (Aquitaine\, France) brings in knowledge and expertise on forest risk management and climate change adaptation \n\n\n\n– Jo O’Hara is a professional Chartered Forester\, director of FutureArk Ltd and a non-executive board member of Forestry and Land Scotland. She brings in policy and strategy expertise in relation to change management. \n\n\n\n– Irish Ministry representative (TBA) \n\n\n\n– Dr. Carolin Stiehl from Wald & Holz NRW brings in expertise in forest management and restoration implications after major forest disturbance. \n\n\n\nREGISTRATION
