Por lo tanto, para ayudar a los gestores forestales a equilibrar las\ncompensaciones entre la maximizaci\u00f3n del rendimiento forestal y la minimizaci\u00f3n\nde los riesgos de los da\u00f1os causados por el viento y la nieve, a principios de\n2020 se puso en marcha el proyecto MARCSMAN o \u00abMaximizaci\u00f3n de la\nresiliencia y el secuestro de carbono en los bosques gestionados de p\u00edcea de\nNoruega\u00bb, dirigido por NIBIO (Norsk Institutt for Bio\u00f8konomi) o el\nInstituto Noruego de Bioeconom\u00eda, y se prolongar\u00e1 hasta finales de 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>La gesti\u00f3n forestal sostenible desempe\u00f1a un\npapel fundamental en las estrategias de mitigaci\u00f3n del cambio clim\u00e1tico. Esto\nse debe al potencial de secuestro de carbono de los bosques y a su suministro\nde materias primas que pueden sustituir a materiales con mayor huella de\ncarbono.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>En algunos pa\u00edses, como en Noruega, se prev\u00e9 que la temperatura media aumente m\u00e1s que la media mundial, por lo que es probable que las condiciones para el crecimiento de los bosques cambien considerablemente hacia finales del siglo XXI (Tveito 2014). Aunque estos cambios pueden ser beneficiosos para el crecimiento de la p\u00edcea en la mayor parte de Noruega, el cambio clim\u00e1tico tambi\u00e9n puede hacer que los bosques sean m\u00e1s propensos a los da\u00f1os bi\u00f3ticos y abi\u00f3ticos. Una temperatura favorable puede aumentar la productividad y hacer que los \u00e1rboles alcancen antes las alturas cr\u00edticas, siendo as\u00ed m\u00e1s vulnerables a los da\u00f1os del viento. Con un clima m\u00e1s c\u00e1lido, la disminuci\u00f3n de las heladas en el suelo y el aumento de la humedad durante el invierno pueden hacer que los \u00e1rboles sean m\u00e1s susceptibles al desarraigo (Kamimura et al. 2021). Adem\u00e1s, se espera que una mayor frecuencia de fuertes precipitaciones durante los inviernos suaves aumente la carga de nieve sobre los \u00e1rboles en algunas regiones (Tveito 2014). Por lo tanto, el riesgo de que el viento y la nieve se rompan en gran medida puede contrarrestar el aumento de la productividad derivado de las condiciones de crecimiento favorables.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>En Europa, se ha calculado que el viento ha\ncausado alrededor del 50% de todos los da\u00f1os forestales durante un periodo de\n50 a\u00f1os (Schelhaas et al. 2003). En el caso de la tormenta Gudrun, ocurrida en\nel sur de Suecia en 2005, las p\u00e9rdidas econ\u00f3micas directas e indirectas se\nestimaron muy por encima de los 2.000 millones de euros (Gardiner et al. 2010).\nPor lo tanto, incluso una ligera reducci\u00f3n de la gravedad de los da\u00f1os causados\npor golpes de viento o ca\u00eddas de nieve en los rodales de abeto conducir\u00e1 a\nconsiderables beneficios econ\u00f3micos para el sector forestal. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>La probabilidad de que se produzcan estos\nda\u00f1os depende del clima local, de las condiciones del lugar y de la topograf\u00eda,\nas\u00ed como de las propiedades de los \u00e1rboles que est\u00e1n determinadas en gran\nmedida por la densidad, como su conicidad, el tama\u00f1o de la copa y el tama\u00f1o y\nla estructura de las ra\u00edces. Por lo tanto, para maximizar el potencial\nbiol\u00f3gico de un bosque para capturar la mayor cantidad de carbono posible y, al\nmismo tiempo, mantener y\/o aumentar la resiliencia de las masas forestales, es\ncrucial una gesti\u00f3n adecuada de la densidad, adaptada a las condiciones\ntopogr\u00e1ficas locales y a los factores de riesgo clim\u00e1tico.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.plantedforests.org\/project-marcsman\/\">MARCSMAN<\/a> pretende facilitar una estimaci\u00f3n m\u00e1s precisa de la productividad real, el equilibrio con la resiliencia, as\u00ed como el potencial de captura de carbono de los bosques noruegos en un clima cambiante. El proyecto tambi\u00e9n pretende proporcionar a los gestores\/propietarios de bosques y a otras partes interesadas en el sector forestal herramientas para reducir el riesgo de p\u00e9rdidas catastr\u00f3ficas derivadas de fen\u00f3menos meteorol\u00f3gicos extremos. Para lograr estos objetivos, los socios del proyecto aplicar\u00e1n una combinaci\u00f3n de enfoques tradicionales y novedosos, que van desde la modelizaci\u00f3n emp\u00edrica, basada en amplios conjuntos de datos procedentes de ensayos de campo a largo plazo e inventarios de rodales, hasta el uso de an\u00e1lisis de datos avanzados derivados de plataformas de teledetecci\u00f3n y nuevas herramientas de aprendizaje autom\u00e1tico.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Los resultados del proyecto servir\u00e1n as\u00ed como\nbase de conocimientos y referencia para una futura ampliaci\u00f3n, y promover\u00e1n el\ndebate entre las partes interesadas sobre c\u00f3mo gestionar los bosques de forma\n\u00f3ptima para el secuestro de carbono y la creaci\u00f3n de valor, reduciendo al mismo\ntiempo el impacto negativo del cambio clim\u00e1tico.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>por: Hubert Cosico (IEFC)<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>La gesti\u00f3n forestal sostenible desempe\u00f1a un papel fundamental en las estrategias de mitigaci\u00f3n del cambio clim\u00e1tico.
