IEFC celebrated its 25th anniversary in Scotland!
|

That’s more than 25 rings that have been added to the cedar tree in front of Pierroton Castle since the IEFC’s founding fathers filed its articles of association. It’s been a bumpy ride, which has seen the IEFC go through its paces with the partnership to host the EFIATLANTIC and then EFIPLANT regional offices, which came to an end in 2019. Since 2020, the network and the team have continued to expand, with planted forests at the heart of many issues such as the bioeconomy, forest sequestration and ecosystem restoration.

The 26th IUFRO World Congress, the largest gathering to date with 4,271 delegates from 102 countries and 3,500 presentations, has concluded, leaving a profound impact on the global forestry community. This year’s Congress provided a dynamic platform for industry experts to address key issues in the forest sector.

Forest fires: what R&D prospects for risk prevention in the context of climate change?

The challenges of improving forest fire protection are numerous and complex. They require the coordination of a wide range of players with diverse skills. For R&D, this work offers interesting prospects, some of which are already being addressed within the AFORCE RMT.

USSE and HAZI FUNDAZIOA organised the conference ” Climate resilience, forest fires, circular bioeconomy…What forest model do we want in Europe?” in San Sebastian, Basque Country, on 14 March 2024.
|
|

The year 2020 was marked by the publication in December 2019 of the European Green Deal, a new growth strategy that aims to transform the EU into a just and prosperous society with a modern, resource-efficient and competitive economy, where there are no net greenhouse gas emissions by 2050 and where economic growth is decoupled from the use of fossil resources.

Worldwide Tree-Pulling Database hosted by IEFC

Over the last few months, we have been working hard to put together the data from tree pulling experiments that a number of colleagues around the world have conducted. To date we have over 3000 sets of individual tree data from 10 countries. These are Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Latvia, New Zealand, Japan, Spain, the United Kingdom and the USA.
